The Oral History of the John Thomas Barnett Family
John Thomas Barnett was the son of Thomas Barnett. Thomas was born about 1810, probably in Virginia, to John William Barnett and his wife Tymandra, a "Cherokee maiden." He first married Johannah Christian. She fell from a horse and was dragged to death. Thomas then married Jane Lane. Jane also met an untimely death. She fell from a foot log while crossing a stream, got wet, took cold and died. Thus twice Thomas was left with small children. Thomas' third wife was Elizabeth Blanding.
Thomas Barnett came down the Ohio River from Ironton (Zanesville), Lawrence County, Ohio on a flatboat. He got off at Cape Girardeau, Missouri and went overland to Iron County, Missouri, near Iron Mountain and Pilot Knob. During the Civil War he was a Union soldier, and after the war they were forced to leave their Missouri home. They moved to Mahaska County, Iowa near Thomas' brother, John Sanford Barnett, where Thomas died about 1870.

The Oral History of the Daniel Dull Miller Family
According to John Robert Martin, Daniel Miller was smooth-shaven, medium height and fleshy. He was a cabinetmaker and a great fruit man, and he had a beautiful fruit orchard. He grafted trees and had several kinds of fruit on one tree. Jane Dull Miller was tall with hair that remained black until her death.
The family was Presbyterian and very religious. When Saturday's work was done, the table was set for Sunday's breakfast. Dishes were left until Monday. No work was to be done on Sunday. Their son, Daniel Dull Miller, was educated for the ministry, but he never worked in that field. He did hold several county offices. (From notes of Laura Etta Miller Barnett).
